David Rayl and the University Chorale of Michigan State University, in collaboration with the School of Music of the University of Missouri, have released a new recording of choral works by Virgil Thomson. Virgil Thomson: The Shape-Note Hymn Arrangements features Thomson’s Hymns of the Old South (1949) and Southern Hymns (1984) alongside a verse from each of the original shape-note hymns that his arrangements are based on.
